We wanted a platform rack because my wife has a step through hybrid bike and I have an expensive road bike that I don't want hanging by its frame. We bought a Red October swing away base from MWE Racks ($299 plus shipping) and the model 64664 Swagman ($129). This model of Swagman is built to slide onto and bolt to a 2" receiver extension and fits beautifully on the Red October leg. The Red October can be shipped with a shoulder on the hitch extension so the bike rack doesn't scrape the pavement when you turn into a sloped driveway. Putting the two together has solved our problem of rear access with a sturdy, minimal-sway bike platform for our RV.
