The flashing redlight is quite small, and when I stood across the street from ny house at night (about 100 feet from my car) it was barely visible. If you were on a highway at night, I doubt oncoming traffic would see it in time to make a difference.
Using this as a map reader is also not practical, since the unit emits only a very dim red light that covers only a very small area.
By way of comparison, if you go to a bicycle store and buy a flashing red light for the same money (and I own one), the lighted area will be about three times the size and much more visible.
Save your money and buy something else for breakdowns.
