Just completed installation of the Curtis 11701 receiver on my 06 E320 CDI Mercedes. I'm a Do-it-Yourself'er and would like to straighten out a few misconceptions about this trailer hitch. First and foremost...it fits perfectly, without any need to cut anything on the exhaust system as suggested by another reviewer. It will take several hours and a bit of head scratching to get it installed...not the one/half to one hour installation time estimated by Curtis Manufacturing (I don't care how good a mechanic you are, these estimates are just not realistic given the scope of work required.) Finally, you will need to loosen the bumper cover (lower right body quarter panel from the rear right wheel well all the way to the left edge of the bumper to be able to gain sufficient clearance to position the trailer hitch receiver in its mounting position. This involves removing several sections of your trunk liner and several bolts that fasten the bumper cover/quarter panel extension to the rest of the body. You will also need to drill two holes in your trunk well...one can be accomplished by following the instructions, the other by carefully measuring the bolt hole location from the outside and marking/drilling it from the inside of the trunk. In all, the installation took approximately 3 and a half hours with only a minimum of profanity. It also helps to have the Mercedes Star Service DVD to identify which body fasteners and bolts need to be removed and in what order. I haven't towed anything yet, but am confident this trailer hitch system will do the trick. It is also minimally obtrusive...looks great!
