The description is faulty! I hope they update it! It is 43.25" max which does not fit our Jeep Compass. They are 48" end to end and yet the description on the invoice says 50". So be careful! Other than that they were a fine set of locking roof cross bars. Cheap but totally functional! Wish they had fit! They only fit the rear of our side rails. :(

Swagman 2011 Traveler XC 2 Bike RV Rack - 64663 Review

Swagman 2011 Traveler XC 2 Bike RV Rack - 64663
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have been looking for a bike rack for our 5th wheel camper that was not flopping around like a fish when going down the road. We had a frame style rack that swayed and bounced to the point we were afraid to use it with the pour conditions of most roads these days. I had replaced the stock bumper with 1/4" thickness tubing for strengh, but the upper frame style rack still wobbled severly.
I decided to try a tray style rack and the Swagman Traveler XC 2 seemed to fit my needs. Upon it arriving, I found that because of the inward slope at the lower area of my camper, I did not have enough clearance to use the rack in the stock configuration without the handle bars rubbing on the back wall. I determined that I needed 9" more length in the 2" main tube to allow clearance at the handle bars as well as the spare tire also mounted on the back bumper. I purchased a piece of 2" tubing with the same wall thickness as the stock tubing for about $8.00 at a local welding shop and my freind the machinist installed the threaded bar stock insde the tube for the connecting bolt. With a few dollars and an hour at the machine shop, my bike rach is rock solid with no wobble or movement.
I am very satisfied with the Swagman product in it's stock form, just had to modify for my aplication.

Swagman 64600 2" Sleev 3 Bike Fold Down Hitch Rack Review

Swagman 64600 2 Sleev 3 Bike Fold Down Hitch Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This rack is well constructed; made from heavy walled tubing producing a confidence inspiring tool for transporting large and/or heavy bikes.
The clamp assembly features soft rubber-like inserts on the upper and lower surfaces which work well to protect the painted surfaces of the bikes. (It is important to keep these inserts clean as dirt/debris can easily be embedded in the rubber, causing a "sandpaper-like" effect). The knobs used to tighten the clamp are easy to use and friendly to the hands. (Warning-Don't forget to replace the clamp assembly after removing your bikes....if you leave the clamp related parts on your bumper or tailgate, they will likely be lost before you reach your next destination!)
With the bikes removed, the rack folds well out of the way of the tailgate on my vehicle which allows me to leave the rack in place even when not in use. The rack is well painted which alleviates concerns of premature rusting issues.
While the rack is designed to carry three bikes, I find that two road bikes fit very well if placed on the rack in opposite directions. This prevents the drop handle bars from contacting one another. To place a third bike in the middle slot would be possible, but VERY cozy.
The height of the rack allows me to carry not only my road bike, but a larger beach cruiser style bike as well. Using an older rack with a lower mounting height made it nessesary to remove the front wheel of the cruiser bike. The Swagman rack being taller allows me to leave the wheel in place.
Overall, the rack is well designed, constructed and finished....and while racks of varying designs, at various price points are available, this product performs well for my purposes.

These roof rails worked great on my 2008 XC70. They were easy to install and secured the Volvo Weekender cargo box without any issues. They were also less than half the price quoted at the Volvo dealership...or compared to Thule's product on line. Highly recommended.

Easy to install/remove but not very solid. My hybrid bike isn't very stable (I can see it moving through the sun roof). Also the company did not respond on my email about adapters to fit elongated bars.

Heininger 1011 Advantage SportsRack V-Rack 2-Bike Carrier

It's a little rickety & we had to buy a special hitch adapter, which cost another $50. Our hitch wasn't long enough but was also what I would think is the standard length. I would imagine most people would end up having to buy a longer hitch.
If you're looking for something that you want for a while or if you're really into biking I would say definitely spend a little more money.
Props to Amazon, though! The first one we received was faulty & they had a new one to us the very next day! They also made returning the first one VERY easy & free!

Hollywood Racks B3 Baja 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack Review

Hollywood Racks B3 Baja 3-Bike Trunk Mount Rack
Average Reviews:

This rack does not seem to fit on the Nissan Xterra. The bike arm and upper support bar are one piece so when we tried to position the top bar above the rear windshield wiper the bike arm slanted down towards the ground. The rear windshield wiper on the Xterra does not allow you to position the bottom arm on the bumper with clearance for the wiper at the top. Maybe the rack isn't supposed to rest on the bumper?? Despite our bikes hanging at an angle towards the ground they did seem to stay in place pretty well after hassling with all of those squirrely rubber straps. My husband's bike has a smaller frame though which was a real headache to try and force onto the rack. Sadly we will have to return this rack.

Thule 513 Domestique Roof Mount Bike Rack Review

Thule 513 Domestique Roof Mount Bike Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a Thule system for about 6 years with the V2 590 fork mounts. I have long been looking to upgrade because of the issues with that particular mount. I looked at the Echelon when it first came out but the stories of the mounting bracket failing have kept me away.
So I was overjoyed when I discovered they had come out with the Domestique. The skewer design seems very fail proof and the design is really great. This thing has good looks too, which helps because they are on my car all the time.
I have only owned them a few days but I have started to discover some problems. First of all the skewer lever and the entire head block are made of plastic. It looks to be a very durable plastic, but it doesn't inspire the kind of confidence that my V2s did. Chances are both of them will hold up, but the plastic head block causes some problems. It is designed so you can move the entire mount forward or backwards to accomodate a hatchback. In the forward most position the skewer is about 4 inches forward of the bar, and when you mount a bike in this position there is considerable flex and wobble to the bike. I found that even the middle position, where the indent for round bars is, is not near as stable as the rear most position, with the skewer nearly right above the front bar. This is a shame because this would have been solved with a metal head. If you have round bars or will have issues with clearance from a hatchback this tray is not for you.
It has a really strangely designed mounting plate for the rear bar. The tray slides into this plate and then the plate mounts to the bar. The problem is that the tray rattles on the plate. So as secure as you can get the front end, and as secure as you can mount the bike, it does not matter because the back will rattle.
The bigger problem for me is that it cannot be locked to your car. That's right. Thule sells a lock core that will lock down the skewer in the closed position. But the nut on the other side of the skewer can be unscrewed in seconds, and the entire skewer can be removed, lock and all. This is not possible if a bike is mounted, because the pressure created by the clamp being locked down prevents the nut from being removed. So if your bike is mounted, it is fully secure like it should be. But if you ever leave the mounts on your car without a bike in them (I leave mine on my car year round) then they can be stolen very quickly and easily at any time. Once the skewer is removed the bolts to remove the entire bike tray are exposed and only require an allen key. This is a fatal flaw that will result in my returning this product.
I really wanted to like these bike mounts, mostly because I was having so much trouble with the V2 design and the skewer on this is refreshingly simple. I also really like the improvement in looks. But ultimately this is an investment for the next five years, and there has to be something better.

FCS Premium DOUBLE SOFT Surfboard Car Racks Review

FCS Premium DOUBLE SOFT Surfboard Car Racks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I admit I bought one of these because it came in a good bag. But that was it. First, it took me more than a half hour just to figure out how to tie the straps. The D-rings connectors and instructions were a little confusing. When I finally tightened it on my car and put my boards in it, it just never really tightened down. There's a long bumpy road to my break...and the straps over the boards kept getting loose from the road vibration. Also, the front rack lifted in the wind and the back rack dented the roof of my car. I ended up tossing the rack in the back of my garage...but the bag it came in is great for keeping wax and other stuff.

Swagman Bar Adapter Deluxe Review

Swagman Bar Adapter Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Swagman Bar Adapter Deluxe and Sparehand Bike Frame Adapter are identical products. I couldn't find any specifications for the products, thought I would try one of each and was surprised to find that they were one in the same. Only the packaging was different. If you're not sure if this will work for you, the Sparehand would be much easier to repackage since the Swagman came in a tamper-proof hard plastic package with rivets to hold it together.
The products were sturdy, but the button and small uncoated metal components are not stainless steel and therefore prone to rusting if exposed to the elements. The products are easy to disassemble, however, so you could clean or oil the components if necessary.
If you think these adapters might be a little too long for your needs, it is clear that you could disassemble one and cut the two sliding bars down using a hack saw, pipe cutter, etc. without any difficulty.

Yakima DryDock Boat Hitch Mount Truck Adapter for Thule Canoe and Kayak Carriers Review

Yakima DryDock Boat Hitch Mount Truck Adapter for Thule Canoe and Kayak Carriers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use Yakima DryDock Boat Hitch Mount rack to haul huge Current Designs Libra XT double kayak on top of my Toyota 4Runner. I am very pleased with the rack, it keeps the kayak very secure. You don't have to worry about longitudinal kayak wobbling when you drive over the rough terrain or speed bumps! I've noticed some latitudinal movement of the rack, though I have not observed any negative effects of it. As far as I can tell, this is pretty much the only option to haul something long and heavy on top of 4Runner as the roof base for putting a two-crossbar roof rack is very small unless your truck has factory-installed rails. To give you a complete picture of my setup, I also use Yakima BoatLoader accessory on my front roof-mounted crossbar. This allows me to load and unload the heavy beast by myself, which makes my life so much easier. Granted, you can't open the rear cargo door with this rack in the trailer hitch, but I can live with that.

Want to carry your canoe or kayak on your truck without resting it unsteadily in the pickup bed? Turn to the Yakima DryDock hitch-mount truck adapter, which creates a top-of-the-truck system capable of carrying kayaks, canoes, and other long loads. The Y-frame DryDock fits onto any 2-inch receiver hitch with an anti-wobble threaded hitch pin, creating a solid foundation for the load. Once installed, simply match the height of the DryDock with your rooftop rack and you're set. The unit comes with stabilizing straps that attach underneath your rear bumper, although you'll need to purchase bow/stern tie-down straps (sold separately) to keep the boats secure. As with all Yakima racks, the DryDock carries a lifetime warranty.

Thule 9003 Raceway Platform 2 Bike Carrier Review

Thule 9003 Raceway Platform 2 Bike Carrier
Average Reviews:

I drive a 2008 Prius, and my wife and I have 29" wheel mountain bikes. I'm happy to say that this rack handles them both, and holds them tight and secure. The rack is a bit larger than I initially thought it would be, and installing it is almost a 2-person job, but based on other racks I've seen and on the alternative tray systems which involve hitch modifications to a Prius, this is an excellent option. I'm sure I'll get the hang of installing it by myself after a few times! Our plan is to travel cross-country with this on the Prius, so I'll revise this review once I can provide details of that experience!

Thule No-Sway Cage Accessory - 2 Pack Review

Thule No-Sway Cage Accessory - 2 Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was skeptical. How effective could these actually be? But for the price I figured "why not give them a try?"
Worth the extra $20 or so. Although there was little to no sway with the Thule rack in the first place (I love my Thule rack - the 912), these keep the bikes extra firm and in their place when you're on backroads. But, I think most importantly, these cages keep the bikes from banging into each other and causing unnecessary frame dings.
Cons:
A little bit of a hassle to put on and take off - maybe 5 minutes extra to secure two bikes.
Also, you have to throw them in your car rather than leave them on the rack - too easy to steal so why risk it.
I like them - I recommend as long as they're less than $20.

Yakima LandShark Rooftop Kayak Carrier Review

Yakima LandShark Rooftop Kayak Carrier
Average Reviews:

had a little bit of difficulty mounting this to my non-standard crossbars, but i didn't knock the rating for that. it DID fit, just took some work. it would mount much easier to actual thule or yakima bars. holds my kayak very securely without crushing it. had some bad trouble with wind noise from the ratchet straps, but this is easily fixed by wrapping the excess strap around the tightened and exposed part of the strap so that it won't vibrate in the wind. again...not the product's fault, just a heads-up. i can see where using the hully-roller saddle on the rear would be beneficial for some people, especially those of shorter stature with taller cars, but i honestly didn't have any major problems sliding it across the rear saddle to load/unload it. my mom uses the same system and does need the hully-roller though, so your mileage may vary. I definitely could not lift it up and over from the side to get it on though, and I'm 6'1 loading it onto the relatively short ford escape.

Need an easy way to carry your kayak without breaking the bank? Turn to the Yakima LandShark saddles, which mount easily to round or square roof crossbars to carry a single kayak at a time. The contoured saddles fit most popular boats--with the exception of cruise ships, of course--with an extra-secure grip for peace of mind. More importantly, a set of four costs far less than most other kayak carriers, giving you a cost-efficient way to transport your boat to the river. Compatible with factory crossbars, the LandShark saddles carry a limited lifetime warranty.

Really felt the unit is kind of cheesy. Not exactly what I was thinking. I wanted to hang rakes, shovels, etc as well as some other assorted things and don't feel it is really up to that task. Will use it for some smaller items. The plastic pegs are in my mind kind of useless. Think I would have been better off spending some more, putting a 2X4 cross piece and screw in holders for my tools.
