(More customer reviews)not really an in-depth review, but more of a 'out-of-the-box' experience. this is my second Curt hitch from Amazon. the first came badly bent to the right/passenger side. the left arm was worse, deviating a whopping two inches from where it should have been. Amazon? UPS? who knows. the box looked OK but the contents not so much.
so on to the second...and it came bent also. also to the passenger side, but not as much (1/2 inch). this time i gave a call to Curt and the rep admitted this can happen along the way and said i could stand on it and use the length of the hitch to bend it back, or i could get it replaced. i needed to mount my bike rack for this weekend, so i bent it as straight as it would get and took to mounting it up.
the hitch was ballpark as far as fit to my '01 Subaru Outback. i centered it as best as possible and tightened the driver side first. this left a large gap to close on the tie-down loop of the passenger side. this meant either my car was bent, or the hitch was off. eh. i cranked the %&$#! out of the offending bolt and left it with about a 1/4 inch gap. the hitch ain't moving anywhere for sure, but i will probably go back and add some washers to take up that space and relieve some pressure from that bolt. looking at it from the back, the hitch does not go straight across. it bends down a little where the 'u' goes around the exhaust. eh.
overall, not terribly impressed but not too disappointed either. the hitch feels solid, and even though it can obviously be bent, i am confident hauling a bike or two won't stress it out too much. the fit could be improved but i doubt that'll happen for an outdated body style. i guess my advice if you need it: buy it as cheap as possible, bend it straight if you need to, add spacers if it'll help, and wail on the bolts if necessary. it's steel. it'll survive. hopefully...
