(More customer reviews)I ordered the Curt Class III hitch for my 1999 CR-V. Previously, I had a U-Haul (Reese) class-I on it, and with a slightly heavier tongue weight or a cargo-basket, the hitch would sag: This is because it was denting the spare tire wheel well sheet metal. Since I downsized my bigger Jeep, this needed to be improved.
The Curt system arrived pretty, Made in USA, and had all the hardware required, including this 'fish' tool. The holes in the Honda frame were not directly accessible, so the fish was used to snake the bolts and retainer into place. The manual read well, and the bolts slid in with a little wrist-flick. While the directions call for dropping the muffler, I was able to simply disconnect one rubber suspender and feed the hitch into place. A couple clicks of the ratchet and now "no more sag".
The installation of the class III hitch required no drilling and mounted directly to the frame. The class-I needed drilling and was an insecure process. As the price is comparable between the two, this is a no-brainer to get the better hitch.
It's unlikely a CR-V could do a real Class-III pull, I'd rather the car be the limiting factor instead of the hitch.
I had reviewed other brands of hitches, and this Curt one had the best basic engineering as well as a better tuck-away design. Not knowing of Curt prior, I am just too excited to give them more visibility.
I liked the fish so much I kept it in my toolbox.
Jim
