This is not a product to install yourself unless you are experienced with hand-tools and drilling sheet metal. The instructions are OK,and you should follow them carefully. However, I would stress drilling not just a single small pilot hole, but perhaps two to three intermediate sizes as well, before the final full-size hole. Otherwise, the thin sheet metal may distort enough so that the final hole is not round, and it may end up pretty rough. This requires clean up and smoothing. I used a Dremel tool for this--be careful to avoid scratching the paint! If installing on a car roof, it's up to you to research the interior structure, so that your holes are not over a structural rib or anything else that would prevent the anchors from operating as designed.
Also, the anchor assemblies that hold the landing pad to the roof are somewhat fragile until they are successfully installed. I managed to distort one of them and had to replace it. Once the landing pads are installed, however, this is a great system. Towers and cross-bars clamp on to these permanent bases in seconds---no muss, no fuss. Much better than struggling with a conventional clamp-on, where you have to realign and adjust every time you install, so that you're tempted to just leave the thing on and put up with the wind-noise and worse gas mileage that results.
