(More customer reviews)This review is for the Sanus WFAV44 A/V Cabinet. The product looks good, and the cabinet is designed to allow convection-cooling of your components, a thoughtful benefit many other enclosed A/V cabinets don't allow. There, nice things first.
The thoughtful incorporation of just this feature is what inclined me to think that the piece would reflect such consideration throughout it's construction. To say I was sadly mistaken would be something of an understatement. The entire cabinet uses particle-board throughout, with the exception of the center dividing- and two side-panels, which are constructed of soft pine or the equivalent. As mentioned in the previous review here, the contraption (wouldn't call it furniture) is held together by cam-locks and dowels anchored in the soft wood sides securing the cross-pieces (made of particle-board). The cam-locks are cheap in their own right (first head snapped off in assembly) and allow considerable play, even with the paired dowels. No structural rigidity whatsoever, and the degree of wobble will be evident long before (and sadly after) you are complete with the frustrating assembly. The load rating of the respective shelves is consequently very questionable, given that the structure isn't very sound to start with, and the cheap contact-paper covered shelves themselves (thoughtfully gapped from the front and back of the cabinet to allow air-flow) are secured in soft particle board that isn't likely to support much load under the best of circumstances.
Don't know that much else can be said. If you want a nice looking component shelf to hide some featherweight electronics behind smoked glass (nice feature) and you don't care that it should survive the year, go for it. Otherwise, be warned and look elsewhere.
