(More customer reviews)I've had this about a month installed on an 07 FJ Cruiser with stock roof rack supporting a 60" Hi-Lift X Jack. I was a little skeptical of these 2 brackets supporting the weight of the 60" jack and keeping it suspended on rough terrain, but after several outings it hasn't even been an issue. Fit and finish is pretty good. The "U" bolt and nuts could be cleaner but in comparison to other brackets that cost 2-3X these, they are fine. Be careful when torquing, you can crush your rack tubes if you are not careful. It has done what it is supposed to do perfectly.
So why 3 stars???? Because, although these mounts perform and are some of the cheapest mounts I've seen, its still over $50 for brackets. These are brackets!! Why they cost almost half the jack itself I have no clue. There isn't half as much material in these as in my Hi-lift Xtreme!
I feel the purchase would have been more justified if it were providing additional value like added security but there is no way to lock the mount to secure the jack. I use a gun lock to secure the jack to the roof rack which is an added expense. Also, you can't secure the mounts themselves to the roof rack to avoid theft.
Another minor gripe, It would have been nice to have at least a minimal selection of hardware color finishes to choose from.
Call me weird, but it bothers me that I have to spend more money just to be able to bring along a jack I already paid for. If the jack was meant to stay home, then I would understand. I feel this should have been standard equipment with the purchase of the jack. It doesn't make sense to throw it in your cab or the bottom of your truck bed for convenience sake, even if you have the space and I've never seen it done. I've always seen it mounted because it needs to be. What was I thinking..... buying a recovery jack to actually BRING with me.
