I didn't find any complaints for this unit, no stories of rampant lemons, and the price was good, so I made the leap and bought it - upgrading from a 5-CD player to this 100-CD model. I've had it for about a month and am pleased. I have several different brands of CD-Rs in it and they all play fine. The discs change faster than I expected (having been warned that these kind of units tend to be slow), and the changer, while not quiet, is not particularly noisy. The random mode is wonderful - that's the reason to buy a unit like this; it is like your own radio station - and from what I can tell, it plays 100 songs and then stops. This is good, since if you fall asleep with it playing, you probably don't want to wake up eight hours later to discover it's been going all night. 100 songs in a row is several hours - perfect for an evening. The fiber optic output really does have more clarity - it was a subtle difference, but I finally understood some lyrics that had always been a mystery to me.
No complaints about this unit except for some internally placed amber LED lights that flash on and off when the disc is changing. Soon as I can, I'm going to get some black electrical tape and cover those flashies over. Also, I couldn't get the universal Pioneer remote control to control this CD player, so I ended up just using two remotes.
Another benefit of having a 100 CD player is you can include some of your CD singles. Myself, I never listened to my CD singles because it was a pain to load one disc up for only a couple songs. But when they are part of a 100 CD mix, suddenly the singles have a real purpose. If you have a bunch of singles, and are concerned you'd fill up the 100 slots too fast, nothing would stop you from burning a bunch of your singles onto one CD (if you have a CD burner in your computer); using random play, you'll hear tracks you haven't heard in a long time.

The PD-F908 includes versatile edit features such as previous-disc scan. Thisfeature gives you quick access to the CDs you have listened to most recently. Itsamples 10 seconds of discs you have listened to, starting with the most recent,and continues on in reverse chronological order.
CD-deck synchro simplifies CD-to-tape recording. Simply connect a Pioneer CDplayer and a Pioneer tape deck that both feature CD-deck synchro. The CD playerand the cassette deck will automatically operate in sync: the deck automaticallystops when the CD player searches for the next programmed track to play, andrestarts when it's found. CD-deck synchro makes taping your favorite CDs easierthan ever.
The best-selection memory function makes it easy for you to label and listen toyour favorite tracks in your CD collection. Simply press the "best selection"key when listening to the tracks you like to store them for later recall.
When searching discs or tracks, you may sometimes find the first few seconds ofa song aren't enough to clearly identify it. That's why the Pioneer PD-F908features a highlight scan. This function plays back sections 60 to 70 secondsinto each track it scans. It also lets you scan in several ways: you can checkeach track on each disc, or the first track on each disc, or just the tracks anddiscs selected for best-selection memory, or tracks and discs defined bycategories under the custom mode function.
The Pioneer PD-F908 also features an optical digital output for transmission ofa pure digital bit stream to compatible receivers, and comes with a full-function remote control.
