Yakima FatCat 6 Ski Mount with Locks Review

Yakima FatCat 6 Ski Mount with Locks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had a fatcat for 3 years and then recently there were some problems.
I had made contact with Yakima support and they solved my issues.
They stand by their products and will be sure that they fix any problems.
I like this design much better because it is more sleek and looks better on top of a car/suv.
Also it is fatter so it allows more surface area for grabbing boards.
Just their support alone is worth buying their products.

Yakima Big PowderHound Snow Roof Rack Review

Yakima Big PowderHound Snow Roof Rack
Average Reviews:

The Big Powder Hound is a great rack for hauling multiple pairs of ski's or snowboards. Mounting was extremely quick & easy as well as being secure. Construction seems robust enough to last for a long time. I did add the sks locks & they have worked great as well. However I did have 1 lock freeze up on a particularly nasty day, might want to keep a can of spray on ice melter handy to deal with that possible issue.

Yakima FatCat 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier Review

Yakima FatCat 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My fat cat got broken in the highway 70, ruined all the skiis and boards with it last year after using it about 4 months. I liked the design and look on my 4runner but it's not durable to highway speeds with 25 mpg gust winds...

Click Here to see more reviews about: Yakima FatCat 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier

The current trend in skis is just like the necktie trend in the '70s--they just keep getting fatter. That's why Yakima released the four-ski FatCat rooftop carrier, which is wide enough for four pairs of fat skis or two snowboards. The FatCat boasts a low-profile mounting system that works on round bars, square bars, and most factory roof racks right out of the box. The carrier's massive jaws and unique hinge system, meanwhile, hold your skis and boards comfortably and securely.
Thanks to the FatCat's aerodynamic shape, you won't suffer from poor gas mileage on the highway, nor will the carrier make annoying whistling sounds as you drive. Other details include an integrated SkiLift feature that easily clears tall bindings, rubber edging that's gentle on your gear, and SKS compatibility. The FatCat carries a one-year warranty.

I used this rack all of last season. It held up great. There was some noise from the wind hitting the rack, but it was expected. I recommend this rack.

Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier Review

Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I found this product to be a good solution for what I needed it to do--Carry my families ski's up to the slopes. There's not a lot of noise from wind aerodynamic issues, even at high speeds. It holds the skis firmly in place, and has a very easy to use open button & close snap. Although it may not be made of metal, it's sturdy enough that nothing moves in it.
This was by far a better option that several other systems I found, which offered too many parts & not a whole lot of value for the price they wanted. The factory installed ski rack which would have cost $300 was roughly the same size and was not as good a deal as this rack for my 2000 Dodge Durango.
In response to the previous two reviews, I must note a few corrections.
Firstly, the rack DOES hold two snowboards, I tested it with two of my friends snowboards on my last trip. In order for them to fit, one must face down and the other face up, one on top of the other. The individual who posted that it does not obviously didn't think to try stacking them.
Second, In response to the fact that the bar could simply be twisted--you're joking right? It would attract attention if an individual attempted to twist off the bar. On top of that, in order for them to twist off the bar, they would have to break the board/skis in the rack in the process, and that would defeat the purpose, would it not?
The only problem I had with this was the FM1 adapter which was required to install this carrier on my factory bars. The instructions for assembly didn't provide any information for any vehicles besides imports. (Domestic cars are out of luck since this is a Sweden based company!)

The Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier combines quality construction with great looks, and holds up to four pairs of skis, or two snowboards. The Flat Top installs quickly and easily, but does require the Xadapt2 or the FM1 when used on an Aero bar.
The Thule Flat Top ski carrier has locking hoods with oversized push buttons for easy access while wearing gloves, and is designed to have snowboards carried base-to-base for maximized carrying capacity. This rooftop carrier includes all the hardware needed for mounting to Thule load bars, and is compatible with clamping systems (sold separately) for mounting to factory rack systems. Though the requisite lock cylinders are not included, the Flat Top is compatible with Thule's One-Key System for adding security to your rooftop carrier.
What's in the Box? 2 x Flat Top ski carriers, 4 x rectangular washers, 4 x clamp-ons, 4 x carriage bolts, 4 x 2-wing knobs, and instruction guide

Honda Ski / Snowboard Attachment 2002 - 2011 Review

Great rack, just not very wide if you need to carry more than two boards. It is hard to tell from the picture but this rack is wide enough for only one snowboard, you can fit two, by placing them board to board so the bindings of one face down toward the cars roof and the bindings of the other are facing the sky.

Perrycraft Roof Rack for 2001 - 2002 Volvo V70 Review

Perrycraft Roof Rack for 2001 - 2002 Volvo V70
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a functional luggage rack but it's not designed specifically for the Volvo V70 as the listing suggests, it's a generic rack designed to fit a number of different vehicles. Installing the rack requires drilling into your roof rather than bolting to the anchor points under the rubber molding like the original Volvo racks are designed to do, meaning that
A) The rack can't hold as much weight as OEM racks, and
B) If you install it, consider it permanent since it will leave holes in the roof if you ever decided to remove it.
It also means that you must use extreme care if installing it on a car with a sun roof since the screws can penetrate the area where the roof retracts if you're not careful. (This is probably why the item description says "not for cars with sunroofs.")
All that said, it's about $500 cheaper than getting a new Volvo roof rack from the dealer so it's hard to argue against the price. My biggest problem with it is that the listing didn't provide a decent photo of the product so I really didn't know what to expect.

Yakima Big Powderhound w/Locks Review

Average Reviews:

Ha, ha. All jokes aside, I was very pleased with this purchase. Fit with the included mounting hardware on the factory rack on my 2005 Mountaineer. Easy to install, very sturdy. I was worried, because lots of the skis we transport have racing bindings and they are mounted on plates. I thought maybe the bindings would scrape against the roof of the car when the skis were stacked onto it. But this rack gives nice clearance, even when mounted on factory crossbars. Fast Amazon shipping, and off we went to the ski hill.

Average Reviews:

Very very difficult to install. I am the most patient, the very very best at following directions, reading them all first, having all tools available, ready to go.
You have to have four hands to get the thing closed to work the screw to close the thing up tight. There is also not enough room between the car and the place where you insert the nut to put a finger. So keeping the nut still while you try to grab it with the screw is nearly impossible.
Like I said, I am so so patient, and I was ready to k i double L while trying to install this thing. Once I got it on, it works. Nothing to really say about it, its a roof rack. I have a hyundai tuscon 2010.

Inno Racks Rail Slider II Ski/Snowboard Rack Review

Inno Racks Rail Slider II Ski/Snowboard Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This rack works extremely well. It was easy to mount and fairly easy to use. The telescoping rails work great but do feel a little cheap - however they have not failed me once so it may just be the way they feel. The locking works pretty good but it took a couple of uses before it worked perfect. When I first started to use them I could not get one of the arms to lock in place *main reason for the 4 stars.
I have carried 2 snowboards a 159 Wide and a 161. both are very large boards and it had no problems fitting them side by side. I have no tried to carry skis or more than two snowboards but from what I can tell it would not pose a problem.
If you are looking at roof mountable racks for your car / suv or whatever you have I would recommend taking a look at these. They are way cheaper than Thule and seem to be about the same. *Note I did not get to try Thule out but I have used other Thule racks in the past.
Overall a great product at a very nice price.

These crossbars were a lot less expensive than the Toyota Dealership version. They were delivered quickly.
The only negative were the instructions needed to be more detailed. In order to take off the sidebar end
guards or caps to install the cross bars you need to pushed down and out to get them off without breakage. I had
to look at an on-line automotive site for this piece of information or instructions.

This product was perfect for my application, I did not have cross bars on my 2003 Mercades ML350 roof rack. The 5401 Snowcat did not require them, it saved me $300.00 from my Dealer. I have never installed anything like this before and it only took 15 minutes.
