Yakima FatCat 6 Ski Mount with Locks Review

Yakima FatCat 6 Ski Mount with Locks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had a fatcat for 3 years and then recently there were some problems.
I had made contact with Yakima support and they solved my issues.
They stand by their products and will be sure that they fix any problems.
I like this design much better because it is more sleek and looks better on top of a car/suv.
Also it is fatter so it allows more surface area for grabbing boards.
Just their support alone is worth buying their products.

Yakima SkyBox 21 Rooftop Cargo Box Review

Yakima SkyBox 21 Rooftop Cargo Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The box works great for us. It is easy to install (even on a SUV) because it is leight weight, and once you have installed your crossbars at the right distance it takes less than one minute to fasten. No wind noices on the highway, no shaking or wobbeling, and we only lost 1 mile per gallon on gas. It is very spacious, and even large suitcases and a stroller and bassinet easily fit in there. I would definitely recommend this box.

Family camping trips can be a little cramped, as even the smallest tents, sleeping bags, and backpacks take up a ton of space in the car--and that doesn't account for the coolers, camping chairs, canopies, and family dog. Enter the Yakima SkyBox 21 rooftop cargo box, which stores a ton of your gear in a single, out-of-the-way location. Designed to fit crossbar spreads as short as 24 inches, the SkyBox 21 includes quick-installation mounting hardware that accommodates round, square, and most factory crossbars. More importantly, the SkyBox 21 offers 21 cubic feet of storage space, so you don't have to cram everything in the trunk or back seat.
Thanks to the drag-minimizing aerodynamic shape, the cargo box won't dramatically boost your gas consumption on long road trips. Other details include a dual opening system that unlatches on both sides for maximum convenience; an extra-stiff lid that vibrates less than other cargo boxes and is easier to open and shut with one hand; an integrated track system for such accessories as a cargo net or base pad; a new lid shape that's easier to grip; an improved security latch that keeps your stuff safe; and a black matte anti-scratch finish. Also equipped with SKS locks, the SkyBox 21 measures 92 by 18 by 36 inches (W x H x D).

Yakima Big PowderHound Snow Roof Rack Review

Yakima Big PowderHound Snow Roof Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Big Powder Hound is a great rack for hauling multiple pairs of ski's or snowboards. Mounting was extremely quick & easy as well as being secure. Construction seems robust enough to last for a long time. I did add the sks locks & they have worked great as well. However I did have 1 lock freeze up on a particularly nasty day, might want to keep a can of spray on ice melter handy to deal with that possible issue.

Yakima FatCat 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier Review

Yakima FatCat 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My fat cat got broken in the highway 70, ruined all the skiis and boards with it last year after using it about 4 months. I liked the design and look on my 4runner but it's not durable to highway speeds with 25 mpg gust winds...

Click Here to see more reviews about: Yakima FatCat 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier

The current trend in skis is just like the necktie trend in the '70s--they just keep getting fatter. That's why Yakima released the four-ski FatCat rooftop carrier, which is wide enough for four pairs of fat skis or two snowboards. The FatCat boasts a low-profile mounting system that works on round bars, square bars, and most factory roof racks right out of the box. The carrier's massive jaws and unique hinge system, meanwhile, hold your skis and boards comfortably and securely.
Thanks to the FatCat's aerodynamic shape, you won't suffer from poor gas mileage on the highway, nor will the carrier make annoying whistling sounds as you drive. Other details include an integrated SkiLift feature that easily clears tall bindings, rubber edging that's gentle on your gear, and SKS compatibility. The FatCat carries a one-year warranty.

Yakima Mako Aero Saddles Review

Yakima Mako Aero Saddles
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As the other reviewer said: Buy two. The description indicates that this is for half a boat. Its done this way so you can use rollers on the back or another kind of saddle.
These are great saddles. The included felt allows the kayak to slide easily during loading and unloading. The included strap guides hold the strap in place beneath the boat to assist in placement. Once tightened, the a set of rubber guides are cinched against the boat to hold it firmly in place. The included straps have rubberized or plastic protectors to protect your car and kayak from scratches.
The con about the product is that the screws must be very tight on the round bars to ensure they do not rotate during loading or unloading.
All around it is an easy to use product that does the job well.

Yakima FarOut Rooftop Cargo Bag Review

Yakima FarOut Rooftop Cargo Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased this Yakima FarOut Cargo Bag. I will be using it for a 5,500 mile round trip coming up. I'll give my first impressions here, and later, by May 20th, I'll update how it has performed for the first 2,750 miles. I have a 2009 Toyota Camry with Yakima Rr Tracks, Yakima Landing Pad Base for Yakima Control Towers (1), and Yakima Control Tower - Set of 4s already installed. I also have a Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box on top but needed a little more space to put stuff in, (I have to carry around enough stuff for myself, my wife, and my newborn for the next 6 months). I am putting the Bag on the side of the SkyBox. My plan is to put everything I will be using at the hotels inside of the Bag so that I can unstrap it from the racks and carry the whole Bag in every-time we stop, instead of having to carry a bunch of individual items in from the car for every temporary hotel stop. We'll see how the plan plays out. But as for now. Let me give you my first impressions and stay tuned for future updates on performance:
First Impressions:
The Bag quality seem great. It says it keeps rain and bugs out an I believe it. The material is heavy and of high quality. It has 2 different ways to hook it up to your bars, either sideways or longways, nice feature. I'm doing long ways so it fits next to my SkyBox. Inside is mostly just open space, there is a small compartment on one of the sides which is nice for small items you want to keep at easy reach. There looks to be a a lot of space inside. There is a hefty double zipper too close the top plus fold down flaps that folds down over the zipper. Velcro holds down this flap, and to top it all off, there are 4 adjustable straps that both help hold the flap down and will squish down the top if you don't get it all full.
So far, I am very impressed, I only wish it had some type of locking mechanism (it may, I need to look through the instructions). But I will see what I can do to get it locked onto my bars, plus a zipper lock.
Performance:
Stay tuned, will have updates for this by May 20th.
Update 3 July 2010:
Okay, didn't get back to finishing up this review as fast as I wanted to, but here it is.
So as you know I was initially impressed by the quality. Well that has not changed and I am so glad I bought this. I ended up being able to squeeze it nicely on the roof by my skybox. It actually turned out to be the most used item during the trip across the US. It has enough space to fit all the belongings my wife, child, and I need at a hotel. We stayed at 6 hotels during our journey and the the cargo bag became a life saver. Each time we arrived at a hotel, I'd get the wife and child to the room, then I'd come back out for the cargo bag. Unstrapping the cargo bag from the roof I then plop in onto a hotel dolly for transport and roll it into our room. I preferred using a dolly as the bag was around 100lbs. But I was surprised to find out that the bag actually had backpack straps for carrying, this was a big help at the few hotels without a dolly.
In the mornings we'd pack almost everything back into the cargo bag and I'd get it strapped up on top of the roof again. It really sped up our unloading and loading times because I didn't have to make 50 million trips to the car. That bag literally took care of 4-6 trips to the car.
It held up against all types of weather, and lots of bugs. I am truely impressed and satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it. I do have to say that I would not recommend cramming it with 100lbs of stuff and plan to walk 5 miles with it. It's not that type of backpack, but it will let you get your stuff into a hotel if you don't have a dolly. I also have to say that there is no way my wife could have handled the weight of that bag. So for people in the not so buff category, pack it lighter if you plan to remove it from the roof of your vehicle. Also, do be careful about how much you do put in it. While I think the bag could easily handle 200+ pounds, most roofs can't do above 100lbs without bending. I could see our sun roof being pushed down when I loaded it, but nothing serious. All in all, great purchase, would purchase again, and again.
I'll try and upload some photo's.

Thule 689USXT Spirit 1600 Rooftop Cargo Box (Silver) Review

Thule 689USXT Spirit 1600 Rooftop Cargo Box (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just purchased this for my 2007 Honda CRV to give us extra storage now that we have a dog and baby. Installs in 10 minutes with no extra tools - super easy. Fits tons of gear, including a stroller and several duffel bags. Opens easily from either side. The low profile cuts down on wind resistance and lets you get into some (although not all) parking garages. Sleek design and silver color look great too. My only complaint is that my back hatch will not open fully with the cargo box on, even though the Thule Web site says that this box is compatible with my 2007 CRV. Opens wide enough to let the dog in, though, so it's not a big deal.

I have a subie like the pix and liked the look. I thought it would fit, but it's too long. I can only open the back 2/3 of the way. But no worries, it's not like I keep it on there all the time. It was nice to put all the beach stuff up there, and easy to wash out at home. While driving, no noise, no wobble. Didn't notice any impact to MPG. Box was easy to set up, worked well. Totally happy with buy, Yakima is worth it!

Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier Review

Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I found this product to be a good solution for what I needed it to do--Carry my families ski's up to the slopes. There's not a lot of noise from wind aerodynamic issues, even at high speeds. It holds the skis firmly in place, and has a very easy to use open button & close snap. Although it may not be made of metal, it's sturdy enough that nothing moves in it.
This was by far a better option that several other systems I found, which offered too many parts & not a whole lot of value for the price they wanted. The factory installed ski rack which would have cost $300 was roughly the same size and was not as good a deal as this rack for my 2000 Dodge Durango.
In response to the previous two reviews, I must note a few corrections.
Firstly, the rack DOES hold two snowboards, I tested it with two of my friends snowboards on my last trip. In order for them to fit, one must face down and the other face up, one on top of the other. The individual who posted that it does not obviously didn't think to try stacking them.
Second, In response to the fact that the bar could simply be twisted--you're joking right? It would attract attention if an individual attempted to twist off the bar. On top of that, in order for them to twist off the bar, they would have to break the board/skis in the rack in the process, and that would defeat the purpose, would it not?
The only problem I had with this was the FM1 adapter which was required to install this carrier on my factory bars. The instructions for assembly didn't provide any information for any vehicles besides imports. (Domestic cars are out of luck since this is a Sweden based company!)

The Thule 724 Flat Top 4-Ski Rooftop Carrier combines quality construction with great looks, and holds up to four pairs of skis, or two snowboards. The Flat Top installs quickly and easily, but does require the Xadapt2 or the FM1 when used on an Aero bar.
The Thule Flat Top ski carrier has locking hoods with oversized push buttons for easy access while wearing gloves, and is designed to have snowboards carried base-to-base for maximized carrying capacity. This rooftop carrier includes all the hardware needed for mounting to Thule load bars, and is compatible with clamping systems (sold separately) for mounting to factory rack systems. Yakima Skybox Lopro 16 Roof Top Box Review

Yakima Skybox Lopro 16 Roof Top Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased one of these over the weekend and completely fell in love with it on the first trip to Lake Tahoe. I originally wanted to go with the Skybox 16. My friend had one installed on his Audi A3. When I purchased my BMWX3 I knew I would have garage clearance issues if I went with a cargo box. I was tired of putting wet and dirty snowboard equipment in my trunk space and knew I had to get a cargo box to enjoy my weekends away. Low and behold, Yakima releases this extra low wonder. I snagged the last one at my local rack store. I did hesitate with the price at first. However, being able to park in your garage with the roof car box is priceless. This box is the widest box Yakima offers, so don't expect to install anything else on top unless you have some really long cross bars. Also this box is really quiet on the wind noise. I have experienced many different setups for roof top cargos, and by far this is one of the quietest without the need of any modifications (fairings/strings/bungie/etc).

Yakima World Straps Review

Yakima World Straps
Average Reviews:

If you're looking for the original Yakima world strap, this isn't it. The product photo is right, but what I received is different. First, the strap has no "world" on it, is one loop longer and is not as thick and heavy as the original. It's as close as I could find and the packaging even says "RPL World Straps for Hitch Racks". I think they will work just fine, but probably won't last as long as my old straps.

Yakima SkyBox 12 Review

Yakima SkyBox 12
Average Reviews:

Excellent box, opens smoothly with one hand, easy to install and remove. I opened other boxes at REI including other Yakima's and they required two hands to open and felt flimsy. This one installs in under a minute with no tools. One time adjustment to roof rack by screwing in or out the handles to adjust the pressure of the feet that attach to the roof rack, flip the four handles down and the box is locked. Next time is just a flip of the handles for on or off. I couldn't tell it was on the roof of my HHR at 75mph on the interstate. I found myself looking for a shadow to verify. There was no noticeable drag so I don't expect a big change in fuel economy even with my little four cylinder.

Thule Ascent 1500 Cargo Box Review

Thule Ascent 1500 Cargo Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Thule Rooftop Cargo Box after seeing them on so many vehicles on my travels across the U.S.. The 603 Ascent 1500 was selected as the size and shape fit my camping needs to a "T". Once I received it and opened the box I was skeptical as it is very light, but feeling confident with the numbers of them in use, I mounted it to my 2001 Subaru Outback. Wow! Easy and Quick! No brainer there! Then it was off to Washington State an over 2100 mile trip.
Well, I am back and only have enthusiastic phrase for this fabulous cargo box! High winds at 75 mph and rain didn't phase it one bit! As far as my gas mileage, I really think it increased! I get 25 mpg normally and I averaged just over 24 mpg! That includes going through the Rockies several times and the high wind on the nose driving! I don't believe I did that well without it. This is a Great Product and I am sure you will be pleased as well! Purchase it, you won't regret it! Amazon gave great service and shipping!
