Rocky Mounts TieRod Black Bike Tray Review

Rocky Mounts TieRod Black Bike Tray
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This rack is well constructed and the instructions were pretty good. Installation was a breeze requiring about 15 minutes.
On the car, the empty rack doesn't make any noise that we can hear and even with a bike up there the noise is extremely minimal. Locking the bike in place is easy but our vehicle isn't super tall.
We bought the lock cores to go with the rack in order to deter theft of the rack and offer some peace of mind when stopping in restaurants on the way to a ride or back.

Curt Manufacturing 11384 Class I Receiver Review

Curt Manufacturing 11384 Class I Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Curt Manufacturing Class 1 receiver (11384) I purchased was installed on my 2007 MazdaSpeed 3. This is my first time installing, owning, and using towing equipment, so I was unsure of the results. I use it for a hitch mounted bike rake that holds 4 bikes.
Install:
The install was simple and required the drilling of four (I think) holes in the rear bumper frame assembly. It was simple and done with a battery hand drill. Next, fishing the bolts through the end-caps of the bumpers to the newly drilled holes using a guidewire took patience and an ounce of luck. After the second one they seemed to go in rather quickly. Finally torque all nuts down to spec. Overall, it took about 45 minutes with no prior experience.
Fit:
The receiver was actually too small and had some gap between the bumper frame assembly and the outer flanges of the receiver. Some reviewers recommended hammering/bending it into shape (we were unable to do this). I kept torquing down the nuts evenly and bent the flanges into shape that way. Now it's snug, but in retrospect, I probably should've used some sort of spacer or pre-bent the flanges. The receiver box shows from behind the car but nothing else. Rear ground clearance has only been reduced by a 2-3 inches from that part.
Performance:
I've used the receiver with the aforementioned hitch mount bike rack many times. The way the receiver mounts allows a certain flexibility on the rack as the weight is kept about 2.5 feet from the mounting points. This allows the bikes and rack to bounce excessively with the slightest of bumps. I'm going to drill and bolt in two more bolts closer to the receiver mount to eliminate most of this bounce. It hasn't caused and problems yet (especially on a 2000 mile road trip with some scary highway bounce), but I want to be safe. This is why I'm giving this 4 stars: the bounce, and poor fit between the frame.
Overall, it's a fantastic receiver with a few niggles. I've owned it for several months and I would buy it again had I the choice. On a clean install, I would've like to have made the above mentioned changes as well.

Had to order it with my Saris bike rack. It fit like a glove, and I didn't encounter any installment problems. I've driven with it on for about half a year now in every kind of weather and terrain, just about---still going strong. Great quality.

We purchased this item so we could take our bikes on a camping trip. Got the van loaded up and tried to mount the item to our Mazda MPV. No such luck - it didn't fit! Tried to return it to AutoBarn and they wouldn't refund any shipping - the original or return. So now, I have no product and have to pay two shipping costs. I will NEVER buy from AutoBarn again!

RV 4" Bolt Bumper Hitch Mount Receiver Adapter 3500lbs Review

RV 4 Bolt Bumper Hitch Mount Receiver Adapter 3500lbs
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a good product, and does what it is supposed to. My only problem with it was that the holes for the brackets that hold it on the bumper were drilled incorrectly. Took me a while to drill them out a little bigger so that the brackets would fit through correctly. They only fit sideways and not how they are supposed to.

Rola 59401 TX 104 Four Bike Hitch Mount Review

Rola 59401 TX 104 Four Bike Hitch Mount
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A design flaw allows the user to accidentally lock the rack while in the down position. Then, when returning the rack to the up position the lock pin sheers off while bending the main post beyond repair. With two bikes on the rack, raising the rack is so difficult that the slight added resistance of the lock demolishing the main post is barely noticeable. I spent twice as much on my next bike rack ... the Dura ... which is much easier to lower and raise, and does not self destruct.

Pyramid Bicycle Monostay Adapter Review

Pyramid Bicycle Monostay Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The flat bracket that goes around the back of the monostay and attaches to the rack is made of such a soft metal that as I screwed the bolts into the horseshoe shaped piece it simply bent and could not be made completely tight. When I attach something to my bike I like to think that it's going to stay put and not wiggle around. I gave it two stars because it's probably okay for light loads.

I have used this hitch to drive across the country but you have to tie it down really well it keep the bike from flopping around. I don't trust the tie-downs that are on the product. Very flimsy. But, it's cheap and does get the job done.

Thule 590 V2 Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier Review

Thule 590 V2 Fork Mount Rooftop Bicycle Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this bike tray for over a year now and it almost cost me a very expensive LOOK carbon fiber bike because it wasn't clamping down enough on the fork to hold the bike securely. I couldn't get it adjusted enough to clamp the fork after less than a year of use so I returned it to my LBS (local bike shop) where I bought it to warranty it. Thule replaced it free of charge but the new one is already showing signs of having the same problem.
The manager of the store said they had another customer who has gone through two of these trays already with the same problem as me.
There is a serious problem with this product and Thule needs to address it before I will recommend this product to anyone.

Installs in ten minutes. The only tool needed is a ratchet with the right socket. Be sure to clean or retap the bolt holes under the car. If you don't it could cause you a lot of trouble. You might need someone to help you hold it in place while starting the bolts. This thing is not light.

Yakima Beddy Joe Review

Yakima Beddy Joe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this item at a local REI. It is perfect. It is for 2 bikes and it holds them easily. It does take some assembly but that should take only a few minutes. It really should come preassemlbed as it would still fit in the same box and save you some trouble. But not a big deal. It is super light yet really clamps down on the bikes. Easy to install in the bad of the truck. I would suggest you get in the back and put your knee across the bar when tightning it down. It makes a huge differance in the hoding power. I drove down a pretty bumpy trail to get to where we wanted to bike, and there was zero movement. The problem is the you can't really lock the bike up. After biking we went to a playground and I was a little uncomfortable leaving the bikes in the bed of the truck with no locks. I parked where I could see the truck..... You do have to take the front wheels off the bikes to clamp them in so that is protection from people on foot. But it is somthing to consider.

Product is well made and well finished. Reasonably easy to install. Did it by myself, but would recommend two people because of the weight - would have been simple then. On a 2009 Hyundai Sante Fe did not have to make any adjustments to heat shield or other to complete install. 4-bolts is all it takes. If you can hold a wrench, you can do this. Saved a bunch vs going to dealership or other retailer.

Curt Manufacturing 12490 Class II Receiver
Average Reviews:

Could not be more pleased with this product, and with Curt's reputation, I couldn't go wrong. What was wrong was the local prices for similar products. I am a recent Amazon "junky" as products that I expect to be more expensive are turning out to be similarly priced, or, cheaper!!! All without sacrificing quality, or expectation. This was received with all hardware, and packaged securely. My only complaint would be the bolt package was heavily taped to the hitch, and separating the tape from the package was impossible, but a minor complaint to a perfect product.
